I'm stepping up from Logitech to a Canon HV20 Camcorder which has an HDMI output.

I'm stepping up from Logitech to a Canon HV20 Camcorder which has an HDMI output.  So I'm now shopping for an appropriate video interface card to pull it into my Windows machine for use in my live streaming events.  I would welcome any suggestions from the community on which card to use.  Ideally, I'll be collecting at least 2, possibly 3 such cameras. I'm presuming that the interface cards offload at least some processing from the CPU so I'll want to install a card for each camera. (Unless advised otherwise by an informed community.)

  1. I have had good results from the Intensity Pro card but haven't used more than one at a time in a machine. I would check the Wirecast forums for the hardware advice and the OBS forums for compatibility. Make sure you buy from a place that accepts returns if it doesn't work!

  2. Further to my other comment … the encoders don't offload significant processing power - at least based on using Matrox and BMD kit.

  3. +Dan McDermott, thanks for the reminder on which card you use. I'll be sure to haunt the gamer streaming forums as they seem to be the experts.  +Stephen Pritchard, It would appear most of the economical HDMI video capture cards do not support mulitple simultaneous camera inputs.  My inclination to equip each camera with its own card is to avoid bus contention on the data.  Using OBS, I'm still wondering if multiple cards could be perceived as individual "video capture devices."  (I'm hoping yes.)

  4. Stephen Pritchard I am still inclined toward offloading CPU and GPU loads and seem to have found an HDMI video capture card that promises to do so.

I'm leaning this way and saving my fun money.

  5. Looks like an option! checking on Amazon though it's about the same $ as a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card, but the BMD has analog too. So whichever suits your set up best.
