Hey I have this issue with the hauppauge hdpvr 2 with the obs multiplatform.  You can see at around 52 seconds the gameplay distorts heavily.

I know it is just the gameplay because the webcam and graphics remain intact.

I can record from the hauppauge software fine and I can screen capture the hauppauge software fine but I can not directly connect it to obs multiplatform without this distortion.

Any suggestions?

Is there any way that I could hear the output of OBS?

Is there any way that I could hear the output of OBS?  This would be especially useful when playing a video using the Video Source plugin.  Then I could capture the sound and send it into a Hangouts Video Call.  OBS has no virtual microphone, right?

I know OBS has no virtual camera but I can share the OBS monitor with the Hangout using other software.  Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, I have been streaming for roughly about 3 weeks now, and i am having a recurring issue relating to obs and streaming. I keep getting micro stuttering even though my frames are exactly 60fps and never fluctuates as i cap them to that.

My system is :

CPU- I7 4790k
GPU- Titan X
Ram-Kingston 16gb (8x2)
Mobo- MSI Krait edtion SLI

I hope some one has a fix for this as i have searched everywhere, my stream is perfect but not when i'm playing.

Kind regards.

Anyone have an idea of what I may have broken?

Anyone have an idea of what I may have broken?

All, I recently updated to OBS 0.656b, on Windows 10. I previously ran windows 7 with OBs and it worked fine.
With the latest build and Windows 10 I tried the installer and it kept installing the 32 bit version. So I downloaded the ZIP file, uninstalled the 32 bit version, restarted (cold boot each time) then installed the 64 bit and restarted.
With Win7 and the old 32 bit I was able to run both cameras at the same time. Now no matter whether I use scenes, video capture device or global device on set up, I am unable to turn on both cameras without OBS locking up.
I tried it with setting 2 separate scenes using global device for each scene and when I switch scenes to the 2nd camera OBS locks up.
I used the analyzer and it reported back that I have my settings correct.
Any Idea where I should investigate next? Win 10/ Logitech driver (which are Win 10)/ somewhere else in OBS?

Thanks Terry, for approving me for the group. I hope I am as much a benefit to others as they will be to me.

Stupid Question Time

Stupid Question Time
I took some time to experiment with OBS today (finally).  I tried to select OBS as a source in Skype, but it wasn't available.  I found a forum post stating that, as of two years ago, OBS virtual webcam output had not been enabled. Is this still the case?  Or is it now  available?  I couldn't find it.

Small "Clean HDMI" Camcorder

Small "Clean HDMI" Camcorder
I can see from the copy that the "I know what they want" marketing people are clueless as to who the market is for this camera.  I think it's me!  I'd love to play with this.  One of the best design features is that the connectors aren't hidden behind the view screen.  Is Santa Claus listening?  :-)

All

All,
I am considering upgrading cameras from the C920 to the next level up, and I am overwhelmed by specifications and marketing mumbo-jumbo.  Still, it's not practical for me to test 10 or 20 of them.  What's important and what's not?  What's money well spent and what's overkill?  I expect I will be working with 720p, and aiming for 30fps.  Small size is a plus.  Wired is good.  Money is an object, so used equipment is fine.  Can you help me make an educated guess?  Thanks in advance.  :-)

Thank you for adding me to the OBS Community!

I am still learning and working on my implementation.  I was wondering if there is any documentation for building OBS Multi-Platform plugins?  I assume they need to be written in C?

I learned a long time ago that when things are done right, they look simple.  That's how I know that video is best passed by using a video signal, not by using the network.  It's also why I know Linux is not the right tool to use to build a video switcher.  If I had done this using two Windows boxes and a capture card, I would have been using it two months ago.  This community, notably Terry and John, have been of great value to me in arriving at this conclusion.  It's not that they said so much, but they said just the right thing at just the right time.

I guess I wasn't up to the high standards of User2User, John, as I never heard from him.  Any time either you or Terry would like to meet with me in video chat, I will be pleased to make myself available.  Otherwise I'll be back here once I make a little progress on this project, v2.0.

Gracias y Hasty Lumbago...

I've used OBS for only a few days now.
Regarding the OBS MultiPlatform version:
I see that I can Transform > "Stretch to screen" which stretches and can crop which is great to expand my game to 16:9.
Did they do away with the green lines for cropping?  How can you crop your webcam if I can find a way to add it.  haha
I can't seem to add a video capture device without OBS crashing on both versions.
This video was made the very first day I had OBS and before I learned how to crop but I am happy with the results:

Hey OBS users

Hey OBS users,
I had my first successful live broadcast using OBS last night. OBS worked like a champ! I used the latest version and used the OpenSuse installer on Fedora 22 MATE edition.
I only had 2 issues. One is that my internet speed kept going up and down, I'm on satellite, so, da! But I think the second one might have been OBS's fault. The video stream was running about 15 to 20 min. behind on YouTube. When I've used the Hangouts app it only runs about 30 to 40 seconds behind. AND... After I finished my 1 hour stream, YouTube only posted the first 38 minutes.
     Any tips?!
Thanks guys,

We are trying to create a "cheat sheet" on how to use the new version(s) of OBS.

We are trying to create a "cheat sheet" on how to use the new version(s) of OBS.  I've not found any list of features or even a glossary of terms used in the new menu structure.  I'm hoping that by sharing the Google Docs document below and allowing comments and edits, we can crowd source some documentation.  If you've learned something that isn't documented here please add it to the document.  Commenting will allow for some discussion or challenges to assertions made.

I've been remiss in churning out new how-to videos lately.

I've been remiss in churning out new how-to videos lately. So, I invite you all to request tutorials to assist my brain in coming up with topics.

The new Windows version of the Multi-platform OBS is out. I need to do a full review of that and a tutorial showing what is different about the settings. It is still in alpha (pre-beta) but is fully capable. http://obsproject.com (Mac and Linux versions have also been updated.)

Here are the release notes. Don't look at them if you are easily frightened by tech-talk a'plenty!  https://github.com/jp9000/obs-studio/releases

Local Recordings With OBS (With Comparisons to Fraps)

Local Recordings With OBS (With Comparisons to Fraps)
Here is a good comparison of OBS with Fraps, but more importantly has some advice I've never seen before for folks only recording and not streaming - namely, the suggestion to change the preset in Advanced Settings to "Ultrafast" to save on CPU resources for recording purposes.

Lower Your CPU Usage in OBS Streams and Recordings

Lower Your CPU Usage in OBS Streams and Recordings
This video shows how to lower your CPU "hit" or usage in Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), permitting an older or slower computer to stream with more headroom for running other programs, like browser windows, games or software applications.

The software used to monitor the CPU is Sysinternal's "Process Explorer" for Windows at Microsoft Technet:  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Load it up and click the CPU monitor to bring up a full window view. It runs in your taskbar.

An Experiment in Open Mic Night style Music Performances
Using YouTube Live Events and Multiple Cameras!

I host a show called "The Blue Juice Jamboree Variety Show" on Sunday Nights. I am using YT Live because the audio AND video quality are far superior to hangouts even when hangouts are behaving.

YT Live Events are amazingly stable. I think "Open Mic" nights deserve that kind of stability. AND I do not like the Studio Mode codec that much, even when it works! Though Phil Aston did figure out how to tame it for his wife Sue Aston 's wonderful live violin shows (taming the upper-frequency stridency that Studio Mode has and controlling the peaks to be no higher than -12db), it still suffers the usual Hangout problems with video stability, and getting the voice right!

(Not to mention Studio Mode hangouts-on-air spontaneously dropping OUT of Studio Mode and back into Voice Mode, seemingly on a whim; and Voice Mode is amazingly bad sounding with music!)

One has FULL CONTROL over the sound quality using YouTube Live Events instead. To me, it is worth the extra effort required to have that quality and consistency. Unfortunately, Hangouts are still providing only an unstable and inconsistent hobbyists' tool, while YT Live Events provide us with professional tools.

Enter http://obsproject.com, a free encoding software for sending one's mic and webcam/video camera up to YouTube Live!

I'm making a video showing a minimum-installation of OBS that would enable an Open Mic night kind of event using multiple cameras feeding the same event.

YT-Live allows up to six simultaneous cameras to stream in, which the audience can select between during the show!

For the test shows, I'll schedule performers to follow each other, perhaps, but it is conceivable they could all play at once without having to wait their turn, and the audience could switch among them, and rewind to see each person in the order they want to!

(That is, though we are used to a linear presentation, a non-linear format is possible. One could even have six simultaneous linear programs still giving the audience a non-linear way to experience it!)

More info to come soon! :-)

I need some musicians who want to play with this to come forward!

I have also figured out a way to keep the social element flying, and have an audience included.

Note: since the removal of the Desktop Audio option allowing inputs to be used (rather than the default outputs) one will have to adjust by using the microphone inputs with Voicemeeter, for instance. Voicemeeter can also be the output for Desktop audio by using a virtual cable as an A1 or A2 output. Let me know if you spot other issues with these, made several months ago.
