Gerwin Sturm impresses the hell out of me.

Gerwin Sturm impresses the hell out of me.  I mentioned that I was having a little difficulty chromakeying comments in his new version of Comment Tracker and he jumped on it, adding a new setting that allows for a slightly bolder font, greatly improving my results. I'll be moving to the new version as it allows me to window capture just the "stream" portion without the extra window real estate.  Dan McDermott , what do you think?
Photo 1 = old version worked fine
Photo 2 = new version prior to new setting can't be read
Photo 3 = the new settings options
Photo 4 = legible (but still not crystal clear) results using the new setting.

We did a test run of the OBS setup to bring a remote guest speaker into our "live" Tech Tuesday event scheduled for next Tuesday.  Any in the community that are interested in broadcasting live events (with or without remote guests) are invited to view the event.  We'll be including selected comments and questions from live steam viewers using Comment Tracker to pull them into OBS.  Should be fun.

UPDATE: You Tube had some serious issues that evening, and we were compelled to abandon the originally scheduled live event and start a new one.  The program was already in progress in defference to our live in-room audience: Hawaii TechWorks' Tech Tuesday Meetup August 26, 2014

Join Hawaii Tech Works' Tech Tuesday Meetup for August, 2014 featuring Ryan Finlay, Founder of ReCraigslist.com and ApplianceSchool.com.  Ryan will come into the room via a video conference call.  Attendees can ask Ryan questions and he'll be able to answer them.  Live streaming viewers (You Tube) will also be able to interact with Ryan via the "Comments" thread.  He'll also be able to answer those questions in close to real time (streaming delay.)  It should be fun.

Another Hawaii Tech Tuesday live event but for the first time, we steamed it at 1080 via You Tube Live Event, using OBS software to mix three video sources locally and upload to you tube using only 1 machine.  A few glitches but overall we are pleased with the capability.  We used an AverMedia Broadcaster HD to capture VGA video from a pass through connection on the projector in the room.  Our primary (presenter) video was via USB utilizing a Logitech C920.  The in-room Q&A camera was a Canon HV20 video camera capturing images at 1080i which connected to the single host PC via USB3 where an AverMedia ExtremeCap u3 external video capture device completed the video inputs.  Audio captured through our Mackie ProFX 8 mixer which was selected as a mic source within OBS.
Now that we've reduced the number of machines from 3 to 1, our 5 mbps uplink is more than sufficient.  OBS wasn't breathing hard at all.

While visiting the OBSProject.com site today, I noticed that the fruit of Jim's hard work on the multiplatform version of OBS is "ready for picking!" As of July 14, the Macintosh version of the new OBS is available for download.  Linux version and a new revised Windows version are promised soon.  While I'm jealous, I guess I understand why we Windows guys have to wait a little longer before we can trade in our old OBS for the new version.  Looking forward to exploring the re-written product and playing with any new features that Jim has been able to include.  Looking forward to hearing from the Linux and Mac folks on what they think of OBS!

Lurking in the gamer community lately in search of tips on video capture devices uncovered something interesting that Intel is doing with their newer processors.  The feature is called Quick Sync Video and it is described in the linked video.  My home machine doesn't have a new enough chip, but I'll definitely be trying this out on my next Hawaii TechWorks Tech Tuesday live event.

I managed to get one HDMI camera into my HOST pc using an AverMedia video capture card.

I managed to get one HDMI camera into my HOST pc using an AverMedia video capture card.  If I want to pull in another HDMI video source, I'll have to do it via one of the USB 3 ports as the machine has only 1 expansion slot.  I still want to stick with the machine for its i7 8 core processor, 32 GB RAM and strong video card.  Reviews on the BlackMagic Design Intensity Shuttle for USB http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003WSQTWU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GI2495VE4FCV&coliid=I1O4KGGK5T7ASH
seem rife with USB compatibility issues.  I'm trying to decide between that, the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008YTAGGW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GI2495VE4FCV&coliid=I2PZ75PKIZJDLI
, Diamond Multimedia USB 2.0 HD 1080 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008KEPW1K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GI2495VE4FCV&coliid=I9DPNU2NNZH74
or the 42Kmi Game Grabber HD http://42kmi.com/store/42kmi-gamegrabber-hd#.U692dvldV8E
Has anyone in the community any experience bringing an HDMI video source into OBS via a USB capture device?
Any/all comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
