Hey everyone

Hey everyone,

I generally peek at this group when things are going really well or really bad. They used to go well.

My buddies and I have been doing this weekly sports podcast for five years now. It's evolved from a "Halftime" Hangout when Hangouts first went to live streaming capabilities. The hangout became a podcast where I got a ton of help by peeking in on discussions began by people like Terry Leigh Britton about how to use Hangouts and Voicemeeter.

I had found OBS in that process, but when I found Restream, OBS really became a valuable tool to our show. We started to really diversify our content and blasting it out on Periscope, Facebook, and Youtube. We had a solid show that brought in guests and was on Youtube and iTunes before this, but Restream and OBS made it especially exciting. I felt like I was getting good a making the stuff work finally.

Over the past month, things have gone bad--so back I'm here. I've been talking with Terry and he has had some issues as well with Youtube and OBS. We've both been getting "Bad Stream" description from Youtube.

There are all types of factors involved in this. There have been updates to both OBS and Windows 10 in the past few months. My ISP has been inconsistent. Adding more variables, I had a successful 45 min stream last night using OBS to Youtube without problem.

Tonight, we had our weekly podcast and we ran into problems 10 minutes into our stream. The only additional factor into the settings was that I was running a Google Hangout as I was streaming.

After 10 min, my FPS starting jumping all around. I ended up closing the stream down and setting up a new live event in Youtube using the Quick encoder option. I went old-school Live Google Hangout. I didn't have any lag according to our viewers.

I'm at a loss. Too many variables to decipher what is the culprit. I hadn't question OBS until this point, but I didnt' have problems in the past. I skipped two updates intentionally. Problems are post recent update, but that may really be corollary.

Anyway just wanted to share the experience.

OBS Settings:

Output Stream Simple Mode
2500 bitrate/30fps
1280x720 output
CPU% in OBS never peeked above 15%

Win10 April Update - Must Change Camera and Microphone Privacy

Win10 April Update - Must Change Camera and Microphone Privacy
I did not do a show today because I didn't know OBS would need this.

With the new update, if you have EVER turned off access to the microphone and/or camera by ANY app in Privacy Settings, you will find after the update that access is turned off entirely to both by all apps.

The fix is easy - in settings search out "Camera privacy" and "Microphone privacy" and turn on the very obvious switch. However I was caught by surprise by this, and could not broadcast today's show since I could not get audio from Voicemeeter into OBS to do the stream.

This was all I needed to know! Hope it helps!

Terry

OBS is on v19.

OBS is on v19.
It can't still be used as 'webcam filter' (Virtual Webcam) as ManyCam or programs like that, or is just me who can't figure how to set it up properly?
After all it can be used to stream, why not as VC?

Terry Leigh Britton watched your youtube on obs and stress on cpu.

Terry Leigh Britton watched your youtube on obs and stress on cpu. very good. I am trying to stream into facebok live and periscope simultaneously. Been successful with this but pushing the envelope when I do two people from various locations using desktop (my guest and me). I am looking for ways to reduce the load on computer so reducing screen size, resolution, fps very helpful. Any other thoughts are appreciated. Also, if anybody here has time and would like to test the two-party stream into facebook and periscope, please get with me. I am very close to success but not quite there yet. Thanks.

Hi everybody.

Hi everybody. I am having problems with the sources appearing in OBS studio. I just now sent this to Mike Downes who has been most helpful but just wanted to also share with you also for some immediate feedback, if possible. The image and slide show and media sources do appear but the rest of the sources such as game source do not. i just get a black screen with the red perimeter around it, nothing more. Here is the video i created to explain the problem. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.. http://www.screencast.com/t/cvxDQzEIcd

Live on Facebook using OBS!

Live on Facebook using OBS!

I downloaded the new version of Wirecast to get the Facebook Server URL and Stream Key but did not start streaming using Wirecast:  http://www.telestream.net/wirecast/overview.htm

Just authenticate your Facebook live stream like this:  https://vimeo.com/162406554

Then I took the Server URL and Stream Key information from Wirecast and used it in OBS.

Mike Downes - Bottom right.

Mike Downes - Bottom right.. radiohead guy... FWIW.. you can change the 'To: selection to "Only Me" and test it... worked for me..

I see Wirecast has announced support for Facebook Live as a destination.

I see Wirecast has announced support for Facebook Live as a destination. I really hope OBS gets this soon. This has been a long time coming.
