I've used OBS for only a few days now.

I've used OBS for only a few days now.
Regarding the OBS MultiPlatform version:
I see that I can Transform > "Stretch to screen" which stretches and can crop which is great to expand my game to 16:9.
Did they do away with the green lines for cropping?  How can you crop your webcam if I can find a way to add it.  haha
I can't seem to add a video capture device without OBS crashing on both versions.
This video was made the very first day I had OBS and before I learned how to crop but I am happy with the results:

  1. Regarding the crashing issue, is that consistent? Is the capture a global device or it is in a shot?  If it isn't global, add it as global and reference that in a shot.

  2. Dan McDermott I have to learn want global is so I will do that now.  Is that like in Wirecast where you are not adding it to a particular shot but to everything?  I will check it out.  I'm pretty good in Wirecast so I'm thinking Wirecast all the time.  haha
    Thanks

  3. It is confusing and I had the same issue.  You can add an element like a webcam, screen capture, etc. two ways. To a shot or you can create a global source and then instead of selecting the webcam/capture in a shot you select the global source that contains it. This way that webcam/capture is only loaded once at the beginning and is merely referenced in shots as you switch around during the show. If you add the webcam/capture to a shot and it is NOT global then it tries to load/open each time you click that shot and the whole thing will crash or hang.

  4. Dan McDermott Oh I think I got it now.  Thanks. That makes sense.
"Shots" is Wirecast talk but I know you started with the bloated Wirecast.  haha

  5. Dan McDermott Can't add a Global Source either without OBS crashing.  It doesn't even give me a choice of what source to add.  It just crashes.  I may have to submit a crash report.

  6. Dan McDermott I believe I was using the 32 bit version.  The 64 bit is working for me.

  7. If you haven't, try a hard reboot before reporting.

  8. Everything is working now.  Thanks. I was using the 32 bit which wouldn't allow me to add a source for some reason.  64bit works fine. Also I found out that Ctrl+Shift allows me to stretch a 4:3 to 16:9.

Ah - yes, you have 64-bit webcam drivers, which cannot be run from the 32-bit version. Glad you sorted that out! I would not have spotted it for quite a while! :-)

Keep in mind you likely want to set your webcam size to the actual size you use it in your screens (that is, likely not the full resolution of your webcam!) Watch this video again for a refresher:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a274YynXRwI&list=PLADO0ZcWBBb62Fn-ExV1PwiAliCA-j7Rw&index=16

  10. Terry Leigh Britton That's good advice about the resolution.
